Dark Bronze Dummy Hinge Fronts
Solid bronze hardware with an old world design
This Bronze Hinge Front is made of Solid Bronze. Adding decorative hinge fronts to your wooden gate or door creates a completely new look. These are available in six lengths: 5", 8", 12", 15", 20", and 25". Prices listed below are per pair.
The hinge front is not lacquered, so it will darken naturally over time. Please read bronze care instructions below.
Bronze ages gracefully and may change in appearance due to varying environmental conditions. Bronze patina finishes will develop a wear highlight with frequency of use. When bronze is exposed to air it will tarnish quickly and turn brown. Bronze exposed to exterior elements and conditions will turn green. This discoloration is referred to as patina. This patina process starts immediately upon installation. None of these conditions are considered defects, but part of the natural beauty of ages bronze.

How does this hardware hold up to the elements? This bronze hardware contains 90% copper and 10% tin. When submitted to a salt-water chamber test, this hardware began to patina at the 16-hour-mark, versus 10-hours for other name-brand, high end bronze products. The hardware has an exterior-grade wax applied to it that adds to its resistance. A client recently wrote that this hardware installed on an waterfront boathouse two years ago looks slightly darker and shinier than the original, but looks otherwise exceptional.
The bottom line is: this hardware is the perfect choice for oceanfront, waterfront, and coastal installations.
Which Length Do I Choose?
People often wonder which length of hinge front to use for their wood gate, door, or garage door. There is a “rule of thumb” that 25-30% of the gate/door/garage door width is an appropriate proportion. That can be a helpful guide.
To really choose the best hinge front length, you can ask yourself the following question:
“Do I want the dummy hinge to be a FOCAL point or an ACCENT piece?”
- Hinge Front as Focal Point: You might have a beautiful new 42” wooden gate and you want to make a bold statement with it. Go ahead and choose 24” or 36” straps and go for it! You can also play with the quantity of straps you use. For a full-height gate, try 3 or 4 straps if you want to create an eyeful.
- Hinge Front as Accent Piece: Even with the same 42” wooden gate mentioned above, you might want to highlight the gate’s inherent architecture. In this case, a simple pair of 12” straps could just do the trick.
The bottom line is…do what works for you. If you want to go big (literally), go big! If you’d prefer something low-key and understated, so be it. There is no “right” or “wrong” answer.
